A Theme That Speaks Beyond Words

Every Durga Puja tells a story, but some themes leave a lasting impression because they connect history, spirituality, and art in a meaningful way.

For its 47th SharodotsavKaliaghat Nepal Bhattacharya Street Club presents an inspiring concept titled “Ma Ebar 1 Rupi Noy, 64 Rupini.” At first glance, it feels like a simple phrase, but it carries a much deeper message. The Mother Goddess cannot be confined to a single appearance. She is the embodiment of countless energies, emotions, and forms that together define the essence of Shakti.

This year’s theme celebrates that timeless belief by drawing inspiration from one of India’s most fascinating spiritual traditions.

Inspired by the Chausath Yogini Tradition

The concept takes inspiration from the ancient Chausath Yogini temples, remarkable circular shrines built between the 9th and 11th centuries in different parts of India. These temples are known for housing sixty-four unique forms of the Goddess, each representing a different manifestation of divine feminine power.

Instead of recreating history exactly as it is, Team KNBS transforms the idea into an artistic experience that feels both ancient and contemporary. Visitors will step inside a weathered stone courtyard lined with sculpted niches, where each figure symbolizes one of the many forms of the Mother. The aged textures, earthy colours, and open architectural style create the feeling of discovering a forgotten sacred space hidden in time.

The Idol That Defines the Theme

At the heart of the pandal stands an extraordinary idol crafted by Ratan Chitrakar. The face of Goddess Durga merges beautifully with her lion, symbolizing that the Mother and her strength are inseparable.

Rather than presenting Durga and her vehicle as separate figures, the sculpture unites them into a single powerful image. It reflects the central thought behind the theme that divine power exists in many forms but remains one eternal force.

Light, Music and Atmosphere

Every element of the experience has been designed to complement the theme rather than overpower it.

The background score by Subrata Mukherjee creates a spiritual ambience, while the lighting by Maya Electrichighlights the textures of the stone architecture and the silent presence of the Yogini figures. Together, they transform the pandal into an immersive journey where every corner feels connected to the story of the sixty-four manifestations of the Goddess.

Concept & Execution by Team KNBS

One of the most remarkable aspects of this year’s Durga Puja is that the entire concept and execution have been developed by the club members themselves under Team KNBS.

Instead of depending on an external creative team, the members have collectively imagined, planned, and shaped the artistic direction of the pandal. Their vision combines heritage, mythology, architecture, sculpture, music, and lighting into a unified storytelling experience. It reflects not only creativity but also the dedication and teamwork that have defined the club’s journey over the past 47 years.

Why You Should Visit

South Kolkata is known for its creative Durga Puja themes, and Kaliaghat Nepal Bhattacharya Street Club adds a unique spiritual dimension this year.

“64 Rupini” is not just about impressive visuals. It is a thoughtful celebration of the many forms of the Mother Goddess, inspired by a rich yet lesser-known chapter of Indian heritage. Whether you visit for the architecture, the storytelling, or the devotion behind it, this is a pandal that promises to leave a lasting impression long after Durga Puja comes to an end.
