Dum Dum Park Tarun Sangha: When Lakshmi Comes to Trade
For its 41st year, Dum Dum Park Tarun Sangha’s Sarbojanin Durgotsav presents the theme Banijye Boste Lakshmi or “Lakshmi Resides in Commerce”. The puja revisits Bengal’s glorious trading history through river ports, merchant ships, warehouses, and the spirit of enterprise that once connected Bengal to the world.

A Harbour Recreated from Memory
Imagine standing beside a riverside jetty at dusk. Palm trees sway in the evening breeze while rows of old warehouses line the shore. Sacks of goods wait to be loaded, a lonely boat rocks gently in the water, and somewhere in the distance a steamship releases smoke into the fading sky.
This is not a forgotten photograph from Bengal’s past.
This is the world that Dum Dum Park Tarun Sangha wants visitors to step into during Durga Puja 2026.
The invitation itself tells a story. It transports us back to a Bengal where rivers were highways, ports were marketplaces, and trade brought prosperity to towns and villages alike.
The theme, Banijye Boste Lakshmi, reflects an age-old Bengali belief that prosperity chooses to stay where honest trade and hard work flourish.
For a club entering its 41st year, the message feels especially meaningful. Just as old trading ports thrived through trust and relationships, the puja too continues to grow through community support and generations of visitors returning year after year.
Why Return to the Ports of Bengal?
Bengal’s history was shaped by its waterways.
Long before flyovers and skyscrapers defined the skyline, Bengal’s rivers connected the region with distant lands. Ships carrying silk, spices, indigo, muslin, and countless stories travelled through its ports and transformed Bengal into one of the most important trading centres in the world.
By recreating this maritime heritage, Dum Dum Park Tarun Sangha is doing more than building a pandal.
It is inviting visitors to remember the roots of Bengal’s prosperity and global identity.
The arrival of Maa Durga amidst docks, warehouses, ships, and traders creates a unique narrative where history and devotion stand side by side.
Lakshmi at the Harbour
Lakshmi is traditionally worshipped inside homes and business establishments as the goddess of wealth and prosperity.
This year, she finds a new address.
She arrives at the harbour.
She blesses the merchants preparing their goods, the sailors navigating rivers, the labourers carrying cargo, and the countless people whose work once powered Bengal’s economy.
The theme transforms commerce into devotion and reminds us that prosperity has always belonged to those who create, build, and connect communities.
The Creative Minds Behind the Theme
Every memorable Durga Puja theme has a team that transforms imagination into reality.
The concept for Banijye Boste Lakshmi has been developed by Anirban and Team.
The narrative design has been crafted by Dipannita Acharya, while the lighting design is being created by Trigona Shankar.
Together, they aim to build an experience that visitors will not simply see, but feel and remember.
More Than Just a Pandal
Dum Dum Park Tarun Sangha has consistently used Durga Puja as a platform for storytelling and cultural reflection.
This year’s theme continues that tradition.
Banijye Boste Lakshmi is not merely an artistic installation.
It is a tribute to Bengal’s trading legacy, a celebration of enterprise, and a reminder that community, commerce, and culture have always travelled together.
Visitors may arrive to see a pandal.
They may leave with a piece of Bengal’s forgotten history.
